Valparaiso's topography is rather unique, with tall hills crashing into flat shores and abruptly transitioning to its ports.

This compressed topographic variety has led to unique systems of site navigation, including the city's infamous funiculars.  In addition, it has sponsored bohemian art projects in the many back alleys, crosscuts and shortcuts that traverse its terrain.

Another conceptual study completed in a studio environment, this project's impetus was the architectural smear.  Again, the translation of this theme was meant to manifest itself at all levels, including internal and external circulation, materiality, aperture, etc.

In the same way Bacon's smear operates as gestural ambiguity, the intention was to intimate architectural spatial ambiguity through interpretations of the smear, literally as if visitors could participate in and/or experience the smear.
